Design Your Own Engagement Ring Online: A Guide

Design Your Own Engagement Ring Online: A Guide - Seattle Gold Grills

Choose a setting, center stone, metal and ring size online, then get a firm quote from a Renton workshop before anything is charged to you.

Designing an engagement ring used to mean choosing between whatever was in the case. The engagement ring builder lets you design yours — setting, center stone, metal, and size — and submit it for a firm quote from our Renton workshop. Nothing is charged until you approve the price.

Here's how to make each choice well.

Step 1: The Setting

The setting is the architecture. The classics:

  • Solitaire — one stone, maximum focus. The choice when the center stone is the story.
  • Halo — a ring of smaller stones around the center; adds sparkle and makes the center read larger.
  • Three stone / trio — past, present, future. More presence on the finger.
  • Pavé band — diamonds set into the band itself for a continuous sparkle line.

If you're not sure, solitaire and halo cover most engagements, and the builder lets you compare every option side by side. Seeing them in person also helps — book a showroom appointment and we'll put styles on your hand.

Step 2: The Center Stone — Natural, Lab-Grown, or Moissanite

The three honest options, and what each buys you:

  • Natural diamond — formed over a billion years, the traditional choice, the highest resale liquidity. Priced accordingly.
  • Lab-grown diamond — chemically identical to natural, grown in a lab, meaningfully cheaper per carat. Same hardness, same sparkle, same stone — different origin story.
  • Moissanite — near-diamond brilliance at roughly a tenth the price, with more fire (rainbow flash) than diamond. The value pick, and the one that lets you go bigger on a budget.

The full stone-by-stone comparison is in our VVS moissanite vs diamonds guide. Whatever you choose, tell us shape, size, color, and clarity preferences in the builder — that's what drives your quote.

Step 3: Metal and Size

  • 14K white or yellow gold — the standard for engagement rings: durable enough for a lifetime of daily wear, beautiful in both colors. The karat logic is in our 10K vs 14K guide.
  • 18K gold — richer color, higher gold content, slightly softer. Premium feel.
