Gold Chain Length Guide: 16 to 30 Inches

Gold Chain Length Guide: 16 to 30 Inches - Seattle Gold Grills

See how a gold chain sits from 16 to 30 inches, how neck size and pendant wear affect the fit, and how length changes gram weight and cost.

Width gets all the attention, but length decides whether a chain works. The same 20mm Cuban sits completely different at 16 inches than at 24. This guide breaks down what each length does, how to measure for the right fit, and how length changes the price of a solid gold chain.

Every solid handmade Miami Cuban we sell is made to order in 16 to 30 inch lengths, so getting this right before you order matters. If you want to skip ahead, call us at (206) 250-0833 or book a showroom appointment and we'll measure you in person.

Measure First: The Two-Minute Fit Test

Wrap a soft measuring tape (or a piece of string you measure afterward) around your neck where you want the chain to sit. Keep it snug but not tight. Add 2 inches for a close fit, or 3 to 4 inches for a looser drape. That number is your chain length.

Rule of thumb: the chain should sit where you measured, not ride up toward your throat when you swallow or move.

What Each Length Does

16 inches. Sits at the base of the neck, like a collar. This length works for shorter necks, open-collar shirts, and chains worn as a clean single line. It's also the standard base for solid gold Cuban chains when the goal is a tight, heavy look.

18 inches. Sits at the collarbone. The most common length for pendant chains and for medium-width chains worn daily. If you're buying your first solid gold chain and don't know where to start, 18 inches with a 15mm or 16mm width is the safe pick — see our 14K Miami Cuban collection for examples.

20 to 22 inches. The sweet spot for wide chains. A 20mm or 22mm handmade Cuban needs room to drape; at 16 inches a wide chain fights your neck, at 20 inches it lays flat and the links show. For most buyers of statement chains, 20 or 22 inches is the answer.

24 to 30 inches. Statement and layering territory. Long chains sit mid-chest and below, work over hoodies and jackets, and pair well with a second shorter chain. On very wide chains, length also shifts the weight from your neck to your chest, which some buyers find more comfortable.
